The play Amadeus and the Destructive Nature of Jealousy Essay -- essay
The play "Amadeus" is Mainly Concerned With the Destructive Nature of Jealousy This passage is all too true, both in Peter Shaffer's ââ¬ËAmadeus' and in life in general. However the play is also concerned with the destructive nature of ignorance and naivety. Salieri is jealous not just of Mozart's talent, but of the fact that God gave the talent to ââ¬Å"Mozart â⬠¦ spiteful, sniggering, conceited, infantine Mozartâ⬠. He is envious of the vessel of God's laughter at the ââ¬Ëpatron saint of mediocrity' as he had dubbed himself. Not only did God double-cross Salieri, but he did it using this ââ¬Å"obscene childâ⬠. It was this jealousy and the rage it inspired that caused Salieri to attempt to kill Mozart by starving him of work and students, and thus, money and food. If Salieri had not restricted the amount of work actually shown to the general public, then Mozart could have been wealthy, and quite possibly selected as the new Kapellmeister. Mozart doesn't understand the importance of pleasing members of the Viennese court. He has no comprehension of the value of money, for when he successfully earns any, he spends it on lavish food and clothes immediately, instead of saving it. He spends all his time churning out music in final copy, which, although beautiful, doesn't earn money as would teaching music. Mozart is really the one who should be jealous, as he has little in the way of money or assets, or even respect. All he has is his talent and his priceless music, but not the sense he...

Why Do We Need Management?
Why do we need Management? Melisa Honeycutt Vista College Why do we need Management? A business is an ongoing activity that will not run itself. As the manager, you will have to set goals, determine how to reach those goals and make all the necessary decisions. You will have to purchase or make your product, price it, advertise it and sell it. You will have to keep records, and determine costs. You will have to control inventory, make the right buying decisions and keep costs down. You will have to hire, train and motivate employees now or as you grow. ( Soni 2010) When a company has good management, the whole company does well. A good manager will be a great buffer for the owner and his employees. He/she will also coordinate most of the day-to-day business. Now we will look at what is the purpose of management, I find that there are five primary functions. * Staffing: You must be good at seeing raw talent and knowing when the company will need more employees. Planning: You need to be able to see the big as well as the small picture. * Organizing:You need great focus, most of the time you will need to be in many places and doing many jobs at once. It is a balancing act. * Leading: You will need to be a leader that can motivate people and get people to work together. * Controlling: You will need to monitor the business to make sure it stays on track. To me the world would look much like my home, if my husband and I left and put no one in charge. It would be complete and utter chaos; no one would know where things are and who did what. I see a manager as a babysitter of sorts and managing a business will be a lot like running my home and family. Does juggling ever come to mind when you think of running your own business? It does mine! References Soni, J. (2010). Why do we need Management? [yahoo answers]. Retrieved from answers. yahoo. com What are the Primary Functions of Management? (2012, November). In Blurtit. Essay on Parent/Child Relationships in Corialanus and...
As if man were author of himself/ and knew no other kin How sharper than a serpents tooth it is To have a thankless child (Act 1 Scene 4 lines 285-6) These lines spoken by the eponymous hero of Shakespeares King Lear, sum up the main theme of the play. Lear is a king nearing the end of his reign, who decides to split his kingdom between his three daughters. In this play Shakespeare presents us with a patriarchal family. It would appear that Lear raised his daughter alone, just as Volumnia raises her son, Coriolanus alone. In the play Coriolanus we are presented with the reversal of Lears family, by seeing one of the matriarchal dominance. Through comparing these two plays one can see how Shakespeare tackles the problemsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I am sure my loves more ponderous than my tongue. Act 1 Scene 1 lines 78-9 It is obvious that Cordelias love for her father outstrips that of her sisters but she cant express it in the way Lear wants her too: Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave My heart into my mouth. I love your majesty According to my bond, no more no less. Act 1 Scene 1 lines 91-3 Lear mistakes her simple yet honest proclamations for a lack of feelings. In his anger he disowns and banishes her. Before the first scene has concluded we are made aware of Lears failings as a father. He believes the vacuous platitudes of Goneril and Regan and yet cant understand that what his youngest says means more than them. He knows its true but becomes angry at her refusal to praise him with flattery: So let it be! Thy truth then be thy dower! Act 1 Scene 1 line 108 It can be argued that Cordelias withdrawal from the flattery game is her way of alerting Lear to his poor judgement. Her reluctance in following her sisters in the `glib-speaking contest can be seen as a sign of her honesty. As the play continues we learn to mistrust those for whom words flow easily. In surrendering his kingdom to his two less than worthy daughters, Lear makes a monumental mistake, and one which ultimately leads to his death. Lear doesnt appear to know how to
